The Sun is Setting the Table.

I don't really know how to post my rectangle comic strips without a scanner, and my phone can't capture all panels at once.  I wish I was a normal cartoonist with normal cartoonist capabilities.

Not tonight honey....

Album cover I did for "Not Tonight Honey, I've Got ... The Nourishment".  Circa 2001.

I actually prefer the rough unheard demos of this album compared to the later studio recordings.  But that's just me.

Although I don't appear on a single CD, I used to perform with the Nourishment as their live accordionist/back up singer/ occasional thereminist, during their "Take Care of Junior" and "Volume 4 Billion" era.  (I'm in the far left.  I believe this photo was around 1999/2000 @ Koo's Cafe in Orange County, CA).

Valentine's Day 2005

These panels have to be read in numerical order, and are entitled "Valentine's Day".

I just found this unpublished comic strip in an old sketch book about a relationship I had with a girl I was dating at BYU around 2005 who had a lot of issues about believing whether someone could truly love her.  If ever things seemed too good in our relationship she cut my head off and dumped me.  This seemed to be a cycle that happened over and over.  She also felt that she couldn't believe me when I said "I loved her" because I was an actor on the side.  My comics also disturbed her and she felt that they expressed a sub-conscience desire to kill people.  The streets and crosswalks between the panels of this strip represent the red light/green light relationship we had.

I'm so glad those days are over, it was a pretty hellish chapter of my life.  I remember how intense and dramatic relationships were before I lost most of my hormones and became physically numb from faulty medication given to me by doctors.  This ultimately led to the demise of our relationship.

I dropped out of school and became bedridden for 5 months or so without anyone really knowing about it, including my parents.  (A BYU professor wanted to kick me out of the animation program anyway, partially because I didn't want to draw like I had just worked on "The Little Mermaid" or "The Lion King", and he hated that I was obsessed with old black and white cartoons, which is evident in my comics.  I also see a little Linda Barry influence in this one.)

After seeing 6 western medicine doctors who always repeated the same tests and having no idea what was wrong with me, one saying I had prostate problems, another saying I was an internal and chemical hermaphrodite, it took a homeopathic doctor to realize I was being eaten alive by parasites (a multitude of round worms and tape worms).  I saw at least one of them leave me, I usually tried not to look.

Anyway, I think I crossed out the date near the top so my girl friend wouldn't know this strip was about her.  It may have been a specific date when she had dumped me again.  I don't remember.

P.S. - Sorry I don't have a scanner.  My friend Davin told me to make this site by just taking photos of my art with my cell phone.

Pretty nasty, but here is my new puppet so far, made yesterday (I still need to add hair etc.) in preparation for my performance next month.  I can't help it but I love making really ghetto un-PC puppets with whatever I have laying around the house.  So far, this one is made with cardboard, masking tape, acrylic paint, two plastic easter eggs, and a weird electronic light device in his eyes that I found at an abandoned storage unit.  It's going to be the un-dead version of Trivial Pursuit host Wink Martindale. (The likeness is uncanny right? lol)  Still deciding whether he should have actual pupils in those eyes...

Mormons and Monsters

This is how my illustration was suppose to look in the book "Mormons and Monsters."  However, I made the mistake of creating a piece that wasn't stark black and white like the other pictures in the book,  so they made me shift the levels to make things look a lot more black.  All the details disappeared and the final printed product looks really really bad, so I don't really tell anyone about this book anymore out of embarrassment.

In the end they included a comic book story which was allowed to have washes, which frustrates me a little bit.

Ah well, live and learn...

I'm somewhat proud of the original since I have never attempted to draw anything like this before.  My comics and illustrations don't usually have this much interior.  Many thanks to local artist Emily Jacobson, who helped when I was modeling the drapery of this work.

Simeon Book Two - Rough Drafts

Some of my rough story pages from "Simeon: Book 2" - I almost have it complete!
Due to other non-comic book projects, I only started on book 2 this summer.  Hopefully it will be completed soon!

One of my favorite album covers for Lost Media Archive's "Easy Listening Halloween Compilation."  I believe I had the Three Suns album cover of "Twilight Time" in my mind when I drew this.  It's one of my fav Halloween comps as well.  Thanks for sending me this Davin!

Simeon: Childhood Memory Comics

A few copies of my comic book "Simeon" may still be floating around comic book stores around Salt Lake City (i.e. "Dr. Volts Comic Connection" or "No Brow Coffee and Tea").

You can also purchase copies from Mondo Music and Video (Shipping included): http://mondomusicandvideo.weebly.com/original-comics.html

Someone actually had this strip on the internet, so I'm posting it here.  An example from my lost work about the lame adventures restaurant mascots will take you on in commercials.  A few giant prints of comics from this book were bought by a local Chinese restaurant in Provo, UT.  The place is called "@12" (in front of Maceys on State Street).  I still think these are inappropriate to have on the wall where people are eating. lol
A picture I found off the internet of my "out of print" book "The Sweetest of Dreams".  The last surviving batch of copies were given to a guy who worked for Night Flight Comics in SLC, to sell at a local convention.  Both he and the comics have never been seen or heard from again.

Rejected T-shirt design for the band "Secret Abilities" 2011.

I couldn't help it, their band name made me think of little kids who had the "secret ability" to create a shiny floating egg beater with their brains.

I like this best in black and white.

Alien Corn

Illustration I did for a newspaper article about "Alien Corn".  Date unknown.

Christmas Torture 2011

Scary homemade flier for ISMN: Christmas Torture 2011 @ Brewvies in SLC.

I was drawing a lot of terrible Santa portraits that year.  I'll post others if I find them.
